We collect as little as we can, and you can play without ever making an account.
Last updated September 2026
The short version
Here is the whole idea in plain English:
- We collect as little as possible.
- You can play without an account, a password, or personal details.
- Standing is status, not money — there are no payments, so there is nothing to sell.
How we remember you
To hold your place, we store a first-party cookie on your device named pts_pid. It keeps a random id — not your name, not an email, just a code that lets your device pick up where it left off. If you clear it and have added nothing else, you simply start fresh.
What you can add
If you'd like, you can add a name and an avatar so your calls feel like yours. A name comes with a recovery key, so you can get your record back on another device. That is optional — you can play completely anonymously. When other people see you, they see the display name you chose, or a numbered player if you chose none. The handle you sign in with is never shown.
You can also choose to add a password and an email address. Both are optional; if you add them, the email is used to send you a way back into your account, and for a reminder to come back and play only if you ask for one. We never sell it or hand it to advertisers, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
Analytics
We may use basic, privacy-respecting product analytics to understand what is working and make the game better — like which situations people enjoy most. We do not use ad networks, and we are not building an advertising profile of you.
Your choices
You stay in control:
- Play anonymously and skip the name entirely.
- Remove your name, avatar, password or email whenever you want.
- Clear the pts_pid cookie to sign this device out; your recovery key gets you back.
- Email us at hello@playthesituation.com with any request or question.
